Dental cleanings are an essential part of maintaining great oral health. Professional cleanings performed by our Waxahachie hygienists and dentist can help in the removal of plaque and tartar that can develop even if you floss and brush on a daily basis. The ADA recommends you visit us for a cleaning once every six months.
How it's done:
Your dental cleaning will last between 30 and 60 minutes, on average. Typically we will have one of our trained dental hygienists perform the cleaning and one of our Waxahachie dentists will come in for an exam at the end. Most patients find that these cleanings to do not cause any sort of discomfort and are pain-free.
There are two steps, which are both as important, in the cleaning process. The first step is a scaling of the teeth, where your hygienist will remove any and all plaque or tartar from the surface of the teeth. This can be performed with either electric scalers or hand tools. The hygienist will also target the pockets of the gums to remove any hidden buildup there.
The second step is polishing to remove any final plaque and buff the teeth. Polishers generally have several different sized heads to clean hard to reach places.
