Dental Exams and X-Rays
Alongside regularly scheduled dental cleanings will come routine dental exams. These appointments help us to identify oral health issues early on, and can help you avoid the financial obligations that more extensive treatments plans can incur. With these twice-yearly exams and cleanings, most dental problems should be able to be caught (and subsequently treated) while they are at an early stage.
How it's done:
Your Waxahachie dentist will first examine your mouth visually, using dental equipment such as mirrors, lighting, and hand tools. They will look for decay or cracked teeth, and also perform and review other important items such as:
- Medical history
- Oral cancer screening
- Gum disease evaluation
- Examination of existing restorations
Additionally, your Waxahachie dentist will take diagnostic x-rays to reveal any other hidden problems, which can show up especially below the gumline. Bitewing x-rays are typically taken every 6/12 months and a panographic x-ray, which revolves around the head, is taken every 3-5 years.
