While dental fillings will cover just a portion of the tooth, porcelain crowns are used to encompass the entire visible portion of the tooth, becoming the new outer surface of the tooth. Crowns are used when a tooth is decayed or broken to an extent that fillings can not be used for repair. Crowns can not only provide protection to the tooth it is surrounding, but also improve the appearance of the tooth and restore the shape as well. Because our Waxahachie dental crowns are made of porcelain, they have the look and feel of a natural tooth.
How it's done:
Your first visit to Morgan Dentistry will involve the reshaping of the tooth and the taking of impressions in order to create your final crown restoration. Usually, a portion of the tooth will be removed for the crown to fit. After the tooth is reshaped, we will take an impression of the tooth to send to the dental laboratory. A temporary crown will be placed to protect the tooth in between appointments.
When you return to our office, we will have the permanent crown back from the lab, ready to be placed. Your Waxahachie dentist will remove the temporary crown and check the comfortability and color of the crown before cementing it in place.
